What is a birth doula?
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the early postpartum period. I work alongside your medical team—never in place of them—so you feel supported, heard, and cared for every step of the way.
What's the difference between a doula and a midwife?
Your midwife or physician is responsible for your medical care and delivering your baby. My role as your doula is to focus on emotional support, comfort measures, education, and advocacy through communication so you feel informed, confident, and never alone in the process.
Do I still need a doula if my partner will be there?
Absolutely. I’m here to support both you and your partner. I offer guidance, reassurance, and hands-on comfort techniques so your partner can be fully present, connected, and involved—without feeling like they have to remember everything on their own.
Will you make decisions or speak for me?
No. I will never make decisions for you or speak on your behalf. Instead, I help you understand your options, ask clarifying questions, and communicate your preferences so you can make informed choices that feel right for your family.
Do you support hospital, birth center, and home births?
Yes. I support families planning hospital births, birth center births, and home births throughout the Upper Rio Grande Valley. My goal is to help you feel safe, respected, and supported wherever you choose to give birth.
When should I hire a doula?
I recommend reaching out as early as you can, ideally in your second trimester. I only accept four birth clients per month so that each family receives the time, attention, and care they deserve.
When do you go on call?
I begin on-call availability at 38 weeks gestation and remain on call until your baby is born. That means I’m ready to join you when labor begins, day or night.
What happens during the prenatal visits?
Your two prenatal visits are our time to get to know each other, talk through your birth preferences, and practice comfort measures. We’ll also prepare your partner, answer questions, and make sure you feel as ready and supported as possible heading into labor.
What happens during the postpartum visit?
During your postpartum visit, we’ll process your birth experience together, check in on your physical and emotional recovery, and talk through feeding and newborn questions. It’s a gentle space to be heard, supported, and encouraged in your new role.
What if my birth doesn't go according to plan?
Birth can be unpredictable, and that’s okay. My role is to provide steady, nonjudgmental support—whether your birth includes an induction, epidural, or cesarean—so you feel cared for, informed, and never like you “failed” at birth.
What comfort measures do you use during labor?
Together we might use breathing techniques, movement, position changes, massage, counterpressure, birth balls, peanut balls, and relaxation tools. I also offer continuous encouragement and reassurance so you never have to navigate labor on your own.
Do you offer childbirth education?
Yes. I offer evidence-based Preparing for Birth childbirth education classes that can be booked on their own or bundled with doula services. These classes are designed to help you and your partner feel informed, prepared, and confident.
Do you offer postpartum doula support?
Yes. Postpartum doula support is available as an add-on or within select packages. Support may include newborn care education, feeding support, emotional support, light household tasks, meal preparation, and helping your family adjust during the early weeks.
What if I've experienced pregnancy or infant loss?
I hold a special place in my heart for families who have experienced loss. With my own experience of child loss, I offer gentle, individualized support in pregnancy after loss—always honoring your story without assumptions or pressure.
What areas do you serve?
I serve families in Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco, Harlingen, Brownsville, and surrounding communities throughout the Upper Rio Grande Valley. Births outside of Hidalgo County may include an additional travel fee.
How do I get started?
Every family begins with a complimentary virtual consultation via FaceTime or Google Meet so we can talk about your pregnancy, your goals, and your questions. In-person consultations are available for an additional fee.
